Caregivers found a wealth of information and experts with guidance and advice on caring for loved ones at second Benevilla Caregiver Connect Event, August 23 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West. This free annual event featured an expert presentation from the keynote speaker Dr. Alireza Atri, MD., PhD., and Director of Banner Sun Health Research Institute. Dr. Atri is a cognitive and behavioral neurologist who provided the latest updates on Alzheimer’s disease and dementias.
The event showcased a new and unique interactive panel presentation by several experts on Medicare and Medicaid who directly addressed audience questions and concerns.
Benevilla also welcomed 50 senior care specialists sharing their resources on everything from placement and homecare to insurance, elder law and much more. Attendees were treated to a wonderful complimentary breakfast catered by Birt’s Bistro.
Benevilla has been assisting family caregivers since 1981 when they first started their original crisis counseling service. “Today, 30-60% of caregivers pass away from illnesses related to caregiver stress before the person they are caring for,” says Benevilla President and CEO, Joanne Thomson. “That’s why getting family caregivers support and information is crucial for our aging communities and their families.”
This was the second of three events in 2019 aimed at providing family members with support, guidance and resources to aid them in caregiving.
