Keynote Speaker : Alireza Atri, M.D., Ph.D.

Latest updates on Alzheimer’s disease and dementias: Lowering the risk and promoting brain health

Alireza Atri, MD, PhD, is a cognitive and behavioral neurologist who earned his undergraduate, masters and doctoral degrees (Biomathematics) at UCLA and Harvard Medical School, and his medical degree at UC San Francisco. He is the Medical Director at Banner Sun Health Research Institute in Sun City, Ariz. He served as a longstanding clinician-researcher and educator at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard; moved to San Francisco to become The Ray Dolby Endowed Chair in Brain Health Research at California Pacific Medical Center; and continues to teach at Harvard Medical School as a Lecturer in Neurology.  Dr. Atri sees BSHRI as a regional and national hub for dementia education and clinical best practices.

Medicare and Medicaid 101: Ask the Experts

Bill Cave, BHSA is a 7 year Volunteer Benefits Assistance Program Counselor for SHIP (The State Health Insurance Assistance Program).  SHIP is a federal program run locally by the Area Agency on Aging, Region One and the Arizona Department of Economic Services (DES).  SHIP is funded by Medicare and provides all beneficiaries with free, OBJECTIVE and personalized counseling services, regardless of resource or income qualification. Bill is also co-owner of About Seniors a local, eldercare consulting company which has been serving Arizona for over 12 years.  Bill also serves on the Board of Directors for PASRS (Professional Association of Senior Referral Specialists), which is the central Arizona chapter of the NPRA (National Placement and Referral Alliance).  Bill earned his bachelor’s degree in Administration of Health Services from Ithaca College, New York.

Amanda Weiler is an Elder Care Advisor with Jackson White Attorneys at Law.  With over 15 years of experience working with older adults in Arizona, she provides resources, education, and guidance to families trying to navigate the complicated process of applying for ALTCS services.  She graduated from Marquette University with a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science and Sociology and has found a way to combine her knowledge of health care with her passion for social services.
