Excitement Builds for Benevilla Virtual “Caregiver Connect” Event Coming October 12th

September 30, 2020

With interest from the community higher than expected, Benevilla is excited to host their 2nd “Caregiver Connect” event of 2020 taking place as a live, virtual experience on Monday, October 12th from 9:00AM until 12:00PM. This free educational event provides family caregivers with support, expert guidance, and valuable information to assist them on their caregiving journey. You can easily join the event several ways.  Participants can watch a live stream on the web at www.peoriaaz.gov/PeoriaTV, tune into Cox Channel 11 or Century-Link Channel 8509 or watch directly on “Facebook Live.”

Family caregivers can get their pressing questions answered.  Over 40 local senior services providers will supply critical caregiver information to the attendees.  They will have videos and links offering expert advice and direction on a myriad of topics including senior living options, home care choices, insurance alternatives, elder law and help with government programs.  Many of these presentations and loads of caregiver resources are already available on the Caregiver Connect Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BenevillaCGC/.

There will be three presentations during this event from local experts on dementia care and caregiving education.  Dr. Danielle Goldfarb from Banner Sun Health Research Institute will present “Life Rhythms: Routines for Healthy Brain Aging.”  Dr. Goldfarb (Cabral), a Massachusetts native, is a neurologist who completed her Neurodegenerative Disease Research Fellowship with the Memory & Aging Program at Butler Hospital in 2018.  She attended Alpert Medical School of Brown University and received her doctorate degree in medicine in Spring, 2011 from the University of Arizona College of Medicine Medical School.  She is Board Certified in both Psychiatry and Neurology with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

“Navigating Caregiving Through Challenging Times” will be the topic of the presentation from Brenda Holt, AARP Arizona Associate State Director of Community Outreach & Advocacy.  Brenda is a member of the Arizona state office team that works in collaboration with the national office in Washington, DC to promote AARP’s strategic issues, priorities, programs, and activities on the state and local level.  Over the last 25+-years she has worked for such organizations as PetSmart Corporate Charities, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona, the Department of Justice’s Weed & Seed Program, American Express, Mass Mutual Insurance, and Loctite Corporation.  Brenda was also a three-year Tax-Aide Site Coordinator under the VITA program sponsored by the IRS. She holds a master’s degree in Organizational Management from University of Phoenix.  She serves on the Board of Directors for the Foundation for Senior Living, is a member of the Arizona Commission for African American Affairs, the Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging, the Maricopa Elder Abuse Prevention Alliance and the Arizona Myeloma Network-Cancer Caregivers Committee.

If you have general questions about caregiving, Connie Danks, M.A. from Benevilla will be live at 10:50AM to answer your questions and support you on your journey.  If you send a question to marketing@benevilla.org by Monday, October 5th it will be answered live during the event.

“Benevilla is excited to have such incredible experts like Danielle and Brenda presenting at our first ever virtual caregiver event.  This type of caregiver support and information is crucial for our aging communities and their families” said Joanne Thomson, President and CEO of Benevilla.
