Two Important Dementia Presentations Headline Benevilla Virtual “Caregiver Connect” Event March 4th

February 11, 2021

Benevilla is excited to announce their 1st “Caregiver Connect” event of 2021 will be a live, virtual experience Thursday, March 4th from 9:00AM until 11:00AM.  This free educational event provides family caregivers with support, expert guidance, and valuable information to assist them on their caregiving journey.  You can join the event on “Facebook Live” and ask questions live at facebook.com/CityofPeoriaAZ.  The event will also live stream on the web at www.peoriaaz.gov/PeoriaTV  and you can tune into Cox Channel 11 or Century-Link Channel 8509 to see it as well.

There will be two enlightening and informative presentations during this event from local experts on dementia care and caregiving education.  “Benevilla is excited to have two amazing dementia experts presenting at our Virtual Caregiver Connect event” says Benevilla President and CEO, Joanne Thomson. “Today, 30-60% of caregivers pass from illnesses related to caregiver stress before the person they are caring for. That’s why getting family caregivers this type of specialized support and information is crucial for our aging communities and their families.”

Dr. Parichita Choudhury, a Cognitive Neurologist and memory disorders specialist from Banner Sun Health Research Institute will present “Dementia is More Than Memory Loss – How to Manage All of the Symptoms.”   Dr. Choudhury came to Banner Health from Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.  She received her medical degree from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.  Dr. Choudhury is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and holds various awards and distinctions. She has authored several published articles, including those focusing on dementia and neurology.

Dawn Purdom, RN, BSN, a Patient Care Coordinator from Hospice of the West, will present “The Dementia and Hospice Journey.”   She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Grand Valley State University in 1996 and has ten years of hospice experience, spanning across admissions, triage, RNCM, Team Leadership, and Director of Clinical Services.  “I value quality end of life care, allowing people to age with dignity, on their own terms” states Dawn.  “I am passionate about educating others, empowering them to make choices for themselves and their loved ones as life draws near the end.”

During the Caregiver Connect event, family caregivers can get their pressing questions answered.  Local senior services providers will also supply critical caregiver information to the attendees.  They will have videos and links offering expert advice and direction on a myriad of topics including senior living options, home care choices, insurance alternatives, elder law and help with government programs.
