Benevilla is thrilled to announce the incredible success of a unique cycling competition that turned athletic determination into heartfelt generosity. Earlier this month, Laura Black Crawford and her friend Maria Parker joined forces to compete against their husbands, Jim Crawford and John Parker, in the grueling 6-12-24 Hour World Time Trial Championships held in Borrego Springs, California.
The “wives versus husbands” cycling faceoff was more than a competition—it was a mission. Together, these four riders dedicated their efforts to raising funds for two meaningful charities, including Benevilla’s Lucy Anne’s Place Life Enrichment Day Program. This program holds special significance for Laura, as it was named in honor of her late mother, Lucy Anne Black, who passed away in 2012 from Alzheimer’s Disease. The program was inspired by her father’s vision to provide caregivers with a supportive, compassionate place for loved ones affected by dementia.
Through the riders’ determination and the support of donors, $7,775 was raised for Lucy Anne’s Place. These funds will directly support the program’s impactful work, providing much-needed resources and care for families navigating the challenges of dementia.
Despite high winds that led to an early conclusion of the race, both teams demonstrated extraordinary resilience and spirit. Laura and Maria rode an impressive 429.8 miles, while their husbands edged them out with 442.6 miles. Both teams set new records during this inspiring effort.
“We are so grateful to Laura, Maria, Jim, and John for their incredible dedication and for choosing Lucy Anne’s Place as one of the beneficiaries of their race,” said Sara Villanueva, Benevilla Vice President of Donor Relations. “Their support helps us continue providing vital services that make a difference in the lives of our community’s caregivers and their loved ones.”
