Benevilla and the City of Surprise Community Garden
The Benevilla and City of Surprise Community Garden is a flourishing green space located on the Benevilla main campus in Surprise, Arizona. This collaborative effort between Benevilla and the City of Surprise provides local residents with a unique opportunity to grow their own fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs, in an inclusive and supportive environment.
Our garden is designed to foster a strong sense of community, wellness, and sustainability. Open to all ages and abilities, the Community Garden offers raised bed rentals for individuals and families looking to participate in hands-on gardening. It’s an ideal space for beginners and experienced gardeners alike to connect with nature, stay active, and cultivate healthy food options right in their neighborhood.
Many seniors in our community find joy and purpose by participating in gardening activities at the garden, which helps promote physical activity, reduce social isolation, and improve overall well-being. Children from the Wirtzie’s Preschool and Child Care program also visit the garden as part of our intergenerational programming, offering a chance for different generations to learn, play, and explore nature side by side.
In addition to individual plots, the garden is a hub for educational workshops on sustainable gardening, composting, desert planting, and healthy eating. Volunteers and community groups are welcome become involved by helping maintain shared spaces, assisting fellow gardeners, or participating in city-led events that take place throughout the year.
